If offering a telephone response, check it can be done.
Some people ask for customers to telephone and then leave the phone unattended.
Others greet customers with constant voicemail or answering machines and don't think through what happens if a call comes out of hours.
An answer may be to subcontract to a telephone answering service or
telemarketing company. These will need proper briefing and beware the
pitfall of having an agency which is totally sales orientated or just
paid on sales.
Calling for a chat or to get further information and being aggressively
sold to or treated badly if not a valuable prospect is off-putting to
customers.
As a side issue, many sales people who are transfixed with targets and
figures don't realise an insultingly small order may be a test!
